Sri Sumanajothi Dhamma School Overview

The Sri Sumanajothi Dhamma School was founded in 2007 by the late Venerable Sumanajothi Thero who was the founder and former incumbent monk of the Austin Buddhist Vihara. The Dhamma School classes are taught by devotees of the temple in consultation with the resident monks. The teachers volunteer to teach children from preschool to 8th grade about Buddhist principles, the life of the Buddha, Jataka Tales, and the cultural heritage of Sri Lanka. When the students graduate from the Dhamma School at the end of 8th Grade, they are invited to assist in teaching the class. They serve as role models to the younger children and make an invaluable contribution to the Dhamma School. The Dhamma School students have participated in numerous Vesak plays, cultural performances, and volunteer projects over the years.
